BORN AT DAWN MUSE: FREJA BEHA ERICHSEN

This week’s BORN AT DAWN MUSE is Danish model and ‘Queen of Cool’, Freja Beha Erichsen.

Born in Roskilde, Denmark in 1987 to her charity executive mother and lawyer father, Freja was discovered on the streets of Copenhagen by a modelling scout at the tender age of 17.  Before long, she was making her runway debut by opening Miu Miu’s Autumn/Winter 2015 show and walking for Louis Vuitton and Prada.

Arguably Denmark’s most celebrated fashion export, Freja has graced multiple international magazine covers and won worldwide beauty contracts with brands like Maybelline. The face of major fragrances such as Valentino’s Valentina and cool Scandi fragrance brand Byredo, she has also led campaigns for Chanel, Valentino and Isabel Marant. Freja is also notable for acting as a muse to Karl Lagerfeld.

The Danish native is undeniably beautiful and has been transformed into numerous characters in her career, but she is most recognised for her androgynous look and effortlessly cool style that has inspired countless street-stylers.

Freja is a self-confessed tomboy and describes her own look as "comfortable, easy going and minimalistic”.  Her off-duty signature style consists of skinny black jeans, t-shirts and leather biker jackets.  As she says, "You can pull off anything if you have the right attitude. Being cool is whatever you think it is. Own your style.”

Outside of her modelling career, Freja is an avid reader, well-travelled and a talented musician,  being a fan of artists such as Janis Joplin and Led Zeppelin. She also actively supports projects such as Doctors Without Borders, inspired by her mother’s charitable work.

Effortlessly cool, smart and philanthropic. Freja is our kind of girl…
