BORN AT DAWN LIFE: MAKE DO AND MEND?

I recently saw an Instagram post by Tamara Cincik, Founder of Fashion Round Table talking about sustainability in fashion and how we all need to learn how to sew back a button and stop dumping our clothes after an average of 7 wears and it really got me thinking… Are we all sometimes guilty of casting pieces that need a small repair to the back of our wardrobe because we’re too busy to get it sorted or we don’t know of a good local tailors nearby?

If you feel you have no time… companies like the Clothes Doctor  could help. They bring repairs and alterations to your door and I love how their website is so straightforward with transparent pricing. E.g. hem repair- £7 per edge. You can use their courier service within London or collect plus points throughout the UK.

If you want to find someone nearby- then asking friends or local Facebook groups for personal recommendations could be an idea? I think it’s always better to get some feedback on their work before entrusting them with your much-loved items.

Finally, if you have lost the art of sewing over the years or never learnt it in the first place, then why not find some youtube tutorials or google local classes available nearby? I quickly found a number of them in the London area that offer simple hand sewing repair short classes. This could save you money too in the long term.

Please let me know what you think and I would love to hear any recommendations of any classes you know of or companies that you use for repairs too...
